Hike Majagua, Lo de Marcos
This is a strenuous uphill hike to breathtaking views of Lo de Marcos.
Starting at the Lo de Marcos Plaza, We head East On the principal street called Louise Echeverria. Then we turn left onto Calle Colima. Passing a fruit stand, you might want to get a liquido (friut smoothie), if you're thirsty. Then turn right on Benito Juarez to the next corner where you turn left onto Calle Vicente Guerrero. And then right on Calle Francisco Madero, which will take you in front of our local middle and high school. At the next corner, Calle Miguel Hildago, turn left and head towards the river. This is not the straight route through town, but it's the fun route.
After you cross the river, the road will veer to the left, heading down the river towards the ocean. Then the road will veer to the right heading into the countryside.
As you walk along the farmlands, take note of the different vegetation. The farmers rotate their crops, one year, growing corn, another year corn, sometimes growing pineapple. Another couple of years, bananas.
Also along the road, you will see a number of trees. Look carefully as there are different trees bearing different fruits. Seawella, Noni, Star fruit, and others.
When you get to the intersection, turn left. This will be heading west along the way. You will come upon a number of houses under construction. When you get to the house, the property with the two-story Containers Light blue behind a yellow perimeter wall at that corner, you will turn right.
You will see the sign Majagua, nailed To a tree, letting you know you're heading in the right direction. This road will traverse up the hill, getting steeper and steeper, so you finally get to a wonderful view of Lo de Marcos and the ocean.
There are a couple of places along the trail heading up the road where you can look and see the view of all of Lo de Marcos and the Ocean beyond.
The hike round trip is seven kilometers. With an elevation gain of over 500 meters, be sure that you bring water and maybe a snack to enjoy at the top. The top will be depending upon whether any of the gates are open or closed. Wherever you get to, the view will be spectacular.
